Vishal Saxena

Blackstone veteran joins Canoe as new CTO following Series A extension

Data management fintech Canoe Intelligence has appointed Vishal Saxena chief technology officer. He will leverage his experience in team building, process optimization, software development, project management and alternative and private investments to support Canoe’s growing client base and strengthen the company’s product and technology strategy.

Prior to joining Canoe, Saxena was a managing director in Blackstone’s Technology and Innovations group. During his tenure at Blackstone, Vishal oversaw application development for several business systems and enterprise platforms, including the integration of fund accounting systems with Canoe’s automated technology, and supported various corporate functions.

Prior to joining Blackstone, he led various software development teams at S&P Capital IQ, where he was director of data technology. Before this, he held various software development roles at Morgan Stanley, Citigroup, and Sapient.

This news follows Canoe’s announcements of the completion of its Series A extension funding led by clients, Blackstone and Carlyle Group and a new partnership with State Street.

Transcend recruits pair of financial industry veterans

Transcend, a global provider of analytics and automation for collateral, liquidity, and funding processes, has selected Jason Arboreen to accelerate the growth of its prime and securities finance solutions. As a seasoned business specialist, Arboreen will help firms optimize collateral usage across business lines to maximize value and overcome the complex challenges of today’s unique financial infrastructure.

Arboreen joins Transcend’s US team with over 20 years of financial industry expertise. Arboreen most recently served as executive director at JP Morgan, where he held many roles within the equity finance and securities services lines of businesses. Prior to his time at JPM, Arboreen held positions at UBS and Goldman Sachs, where he implemented several arranged financing, portfolio accounting, and performance measurement products.

Transcend has also enlisted Patrick Tessier to lead the expansion of its end-to-end centrally-cleared derivatives solution, CCP Central. Based in London, Tessier will lead the development of CCP-centric business logic and drive Transcend’s connectivity approach across new clearing houses.

Tessier joins Transcend as a derivatives product manager with over 20 years of cleared derivatives operations and technology experience. He is a former managing director at Citibank, where he ran global cleared derivatives operations for several years, having previously held regional derivatives operations management roles at UBS and Credit Suisse. Tessier also managed technology vendors in the connected spaces of exchange trading and risk monitoring.

Prime brokerage startup Clear Street lures Celent’s Bailey for market intelligence

Veteran technology analyst Brad Bailey has joined Clear Street, a newly launched prime broker running on cloud technology, as head of market intelligence, a newly created role.

Bailey will work closely with the firm’s leadership, marketing, and product development teams to develop unique industry research and to drive value for its professional trader and institutional clients.

Bailey says that with a decreasing supply of prime brokerage services, rising costs associated with onboarding new clients, and ageing technology stacks, the prime brokerage industry is ripe for disruption, and that—having watched these trends play out as an analyst, he wanted to be directly involved in change.

Bailey was most recently research director for capital markets at Celent, which he joined in 2015 after almost seven years at Knight Capital, acquired by Virtu Financial, where he was director of business development and corporate strategy. Before joining Knight, he was a senior analyst at Aite Group, prior to which he was an equities trader at Schonfeld and RBC Carlin.

Bailey previously worked alongside Clear Street co-founder and CEO Chris Pento and chief compliance officer Christy Moccia while at Knight Capital, where Pento was managing director of global operations and Moccia was director of corporate compliance and CCO at Virtu.

Gresham Technologies continues next stage of growth with new senior appointment

Gresham Technologies, a global fintech provider of real-time solutions for data integrity and control, banking integration, payments and cash management, has appointed Julian Trostinsky as global director of customer success. Trostinsky will play a key role in building out Gresham’s consulting practice, managed services, delivery, and support capabilities to ensure that its customers gain rapid and sustained business value from the firm’s connect and control solutions.

Trostinsky joins Gresham from Duco, where he served as vice president of strategy and solutions engineering and led the build-out of Duco’s global services division. Previously, he was the head of global operations and client services at SmartStream Technologies, where he spent close to 18 years working with leading financial institutions globally. Throughout his career, he was instrumental in developing reconciliation shared service centers for a number of financial institutions including Bank of New York Mellon and Citi.

The appointment follows Gresham’s recent acquisition of Electra Information Systems to create an independent provider of reconciliation and related data services to financial markets.
